Fässi Goboggan and the Curly Headed Girl is a new musical for young audiences by New Yorker cartoonist and parenting author (Captain Dad: the manly art of stay-at-home parenting) Pat Byrnes.
Based in part on the nationally syndicated comic strip "Monkeyhouse" (also by the author) and in part on his real-life daughter's own imaginary friend, the approximately 50-minute program follows young Sarah through a rough day at school (bullying, depression, and general kid frustrations), made livable only through her adventures (cloud sharks, snowbots, and intrigue on the Orient Express) with her imaginary friend Fässi Goboggan and his magic blue airplane — who just happens to echo all the lessons Sarah's father taught her but cannot say to her now that he is far away and facing worse dangers of his own in the military. Staging can be as simple as five actors, three stools and a guitar, or as lavish as your imagination will allow. |
All the songs are written for guitar, because that's the instrument that Fässi plays, and he accompanies the music throughout the show. They can be performed by even the most rudimentary guitar players (the composer, for instance). . |
